Linda Macklem Salzman died peacefully at her residence at Village Park on September 2, 2023 after a five year battle with dementia. Born in Dayton, Ohio on June 8th, 1938, Linda and her family moved to Alabama when she was in grade school, and she spent her youth there. Linda attended Sydney Lanier High School in Montgomery and went on to graduate from the University of Alabama where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority.
After college, Linda moved to Honolulu, Hawaii where she spent four memorable years and started her career in media and advertising. She moved back to Atlanta and lived in Colonial Homes where she met Alan Salzman, an architect, who impressed her as an amateur pilot, sailor and as a wonderful chef and host. They married in 1966 and remained so for 23 years until Alan’s death in 1989.
Linda loved reading and cherished the time with her book clubs. She enjoyed gardening and surrounded her home with glorious and fragrant gardenia bushes. She also loved antiquing (more often garage sales) and was always seeking the overlooked treasures. She collected jade, Danish dinnerware, cut glass crystal, Toby mugs, among other things.
Before moving into her retirement community, Linda spent many happy years in her cabin in Ellijay, GA. She is survived by her son, Scott; daughter, Alexa (Robert); and her three grandchildren, Lucy, Molly and Lila.
The family is grateful for the staff at Village Park’s Memory Care Residence and Agape Hospice Care who provided such loving care for Linda during the final years of her life.
A graveside service will be held at Crest Lawn Memorial Park on Friday, September 8, 2023 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alan Salzman Scholarship Fund, School of Architecture, Georgia Institute of Technology.
