ATLANTA, GA - Linda Chapman DeMars, 80, of Atlanta Georgia, died peacefully in her sleep on January 22, 2019. Born April 29, 1938, in Atlanta, she was the daughter of the late Laura Eckman Chapman and Homer Stevens Chapman. She is survived by her loving husband, Charles Tilton DeMars, Sr.; sister Judith Chapman Couch; children Laura Eloise DeMars, Elizabeth DeMars Graham (Pepper), Charles Tilton DeMars, Jr. (Kim-Tai), Ashton Varnadoe DeMars, Clarence John DeMars, III (Troy) and grandchildren Natalie DeMars, Henry Graham, Matthew DeMars, Jack Graham, and Julia Graham; and a large extended family.
A graduate of Decatur High School, she attended Georgia State University and completed numerous continuing education courses. She taught Early Childhood for over 30 years at MDO in Morningside and Glenn Memorial UMC Preschool along with art classes at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center. Linda will be remembered for her love of family, children, cats, the arts, and, most of all, books and reading. She was actively involved with the Jane Austen Society, Patrick O’Brian Society, and the J.R.R. Tolkien book clubs, was a member of The Michael O'Neal Singers and enjoyed active membership in The P.E.O. Sisterhood, a philanthropic educational organization which promotes and finances higher education for women. A longtime member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Atlanta Georgia, she was active in numerous groups and taught children’s Sunday school.
The family would like to thank the staff of Piedmont Hospital and the caregivers at Kadan Homecare, especially Tiffani James and Tutu Sanusi-Ball, for their loving care of Linda.
Visitation will be 4:00-6:00 PM Sunday, January 27, 2019 at H. M. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, 1020 Spring Street NW, Atlanta, GA 30309. Funeral services will take place Monday, January 28, 2019 at 1:00 PM at All Saints Episcopal Church, 634 West Peachtree St NW, Atlanta, Georgia 30308. Reception to follow in Ellis Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the P.E.O Program for Continuing Education, the P.E.O International Peace Scholarship, or The P.E.O. Foundation. Tax deductible checks should be made to either one of these projects or to The P.E.O.
