Jan was born in Cordele, Georgia to parents Lawrence Asmond Smith and Annie Mae Brooks Smith and promptly moved to Atlanta, Georgia. She was raised in Atlanta and moved briefly with her husband but they returned to be with family and raise their own family in their hometown of Atlanta. Attending school at Kirkwood Grammar, Bass Junior High and Girls High School where she was a member of the last class to graduate. Jan also attended the University of Georgia – Atlanta Division where she was a member of Chi Rho Sigma sorority.
Jan enjoyed her family and friends and a beautiful life along with years of reading, travel, painting, playing bridge, cooking, entertaining, camping with the family, and accompanying her children to ballet, swimming, cheerleading, scouting and all their many activities. She was a loved wife, mother, grandmother – Janmamma and great grandmother. We will miss her.
Services will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023 at Westview Cemetery in the Westview Abbey Chapel, 1680 Westview Drive, Atlanta, Georgia 30310 at 11:00 am (please note: there are no restrooms in the Abbey – use the Main Office facilities upon entering if needed). The family will greet guests at 10:30 am at the entrance to the Abbey. A short walk to the graveside for an additional service will be held at Terrace E immediately following.
The family will be receiving guests at a reception immediately following services at 2:30 pm, 300 Trevington Court, Johns Creek, Georgia 30022.
