It is with great sadness that the family of L. Travis Brannon, Jr., 88, announces his death on Thursday, 4 December 2014. Travis was born in 1928 and was a life long resident of Atlanta. He was a graduate of Boy’s High School then he attended the Georgia Institute of Technology and graduated with high honors. In 1949 he was selected Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. Travis received his law degree from Emory University and was a faithful supporter of the University and Emory Law School. Travis went on to become a member of Hansell, Post, Brandon and Dorsey Law Firm, eventually becoming chairman of the firm. He ended his distinguished law career as a partner with Jones, Day Reavis and Pogue.
Travis was an officer in the United States Army Air Force serving as a Flight Engineer on the B-29 Bomber.
Travis was a former President of the Georgia Tech Foundation, former Chairman of the Technology Square Project and former President of Georgia Tech Facilities Inc. He was an ardent supporter and contributor to the Georgia Tech Alumni Association, the Georgia Tech Foundation and the Tech Athletic Association. In 1987 Travis was the recipient of Georgia Institute of Technology Alumni Distinguished Service Award. He also was a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers and a Director for The First National Bank of Atlanta.
Throughout his life, Mr. Brannon was a faithful member and supporter of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer and Newberry College in Newberry, South Carolina.
Travis was devoted father and husband and is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jean Mouchet Brannon, a son L. Travis Brannon III, a brother Bill Brannon of Clewiston, Florida and four grandchildren. A daughter Carole Brannon Blocker is deceased.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Travis may be sent to the Georgia Tech Foundation, the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Newberry College, Emory University or to the charity of your choice.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday December 10, 2014 at 11:00 am at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer on Peachtree Street. The family will greet guest one hour prior beginning at 10:00 am. Online condolences may be made at hmpattersonspringhill.com
