Ken was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 14, 1935. The son of Seymour and Beverly Gersten. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Myra (Sol) Max his beloved cousins Arthur and Carl Malitz, and two aunts, all of Chicago.
Ken served in the Navy from 1953 to 1956. He moved to Atlanta in 1974 to open M.J. Pippins Chicago Style Pizza along with his dear friend, Jerry Sharp.
M.J. Pippins was across the street from Georgia Tech and was popular with many. They later opened K.G. Grumpy’s, also across from Tech, and another M.J. Pippins on Roswell Rd. in Buckhead.
He is survived by his wife, Sally Lee Gersten, also of Roswell, his stepdaughter, Ashley Maddox Davis (Chip) of Sugar Hill, daughter Corinne Gersten Temple (Jon) of Sandy Springs, and was the adoring grandfather to four grandchildren, Charley Davis, Luke Temple, Ellis Temple, and Annie Temple. Beloved fun-loving (and handsome) uncle of Jodi (Ron) Herzberg, Ricky (Alana) Max and Rhonda (Paul) Wax. Great uncle to Randi (Eric) Schwieger, Brian (Ashley) Herzberg, Scott and Brett Max, and Marni, Erica and Sam Wax. He will be missed by many close friends.
His grandchildren were the loves of his life as was his wife of almost 40 years, Sally.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 17th at Congregation Beth Teffilah at 2 p.m. The synagogue is located at 5065 High Point Rd. NE Atlanta 30342.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations are made to Arunachala Animal Shelter.
