Katherine Harman DuVall Nicholson, 93, died on Saturday, December 4, 2010, following complications from pneumonia. Kay Harman was the daughter of Charles Henry and Letitia Peery Harman of Tazwell, VA. She graduated from Blackstone High School in Blackstone, VA and attended Majorie Webster College in Washington, DC.
Kay married Ward Beecher DuVall, of Atlanta, on July 25, 1937, in Washington, DC. They moved to Atlanta in 1944, where they raised their four children Beecher, Letty, Henry, and Charles. She was a member of Cascade Methodist Church, Ragged Garden Club and an active member of the D.A.R. Kay was predeceased by husbands: Ward DuVall, U.S. Congressman Jim Key of West Virginia, and Bill Nicholson of Jupiter, Florida.
Katherine’s family remembers her as a wonderful homemaker with a sense of humor and nurturing spirit. She loved her family and doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She recently moved back to the Atlanta area from Florida where she had lived for 35 years and where she was an active volunteer working with the Jupiter Hospital Auxiliary and the Lighthouse Museum. She is survived by Beecher, Letty, Henry and Charles DuVall, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at H.M. Patterson & Son, Spring Hill on Tuesday, the seventh of December at two o’clock in the afternoon, with the Reverend Howard Dial presiding. The family will receive friends one hour prior. Honorary Pallbearers are to include: Buddy DuVall, Bill DuVall, Neil Pittman, Whit Smith, Graham DuVall and Wallace DuVall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Atlanta area hospice.
