Junelle was born on July 11, 1925 in Atlanta, Georgia, the daughter of the late Dr. George M. Sparks and Mary Booth Sparks. She earn a BA in Journalism from the University of Georgia in 1947, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. After earning a graduate degree at Vanderbelt University, she later went on to attend The Atlanta University where she received a Master of Social Work in 1967. Junelle’s career in Social Work at the Fulton County Department of Family & Children Services for 30 years was filled with recognition awards by numerous organizations. In her retirement, she enjoyed swimming and was an avid reader. Her love of sports, especially the UGA bulldogs, was always her favorite topic of conversation. Junelle’s sharp wit and tongue will be missed.
Junelle is predeceased by her sister, Charlene Sparks Eison and her nephew, George B. Eison. She is survived by her brother, Judge Robert M. Sparks and niece Mary Cannon Barnes; niece Julia Eison, niece Sarah Eison Prewitt & her husband, Kurt, niece Mary Ellen Eison and their children Morgan and Wil.
The family would like to thank Junelle’s neighbors who always looked out for her and helped Junelle these past few years. Thank you to her long-time physician, Dr. Walton H. Reeves, Jr., and Jim Shields for his tireless attention and dedication to Junelle’s affairs when her family was not able to.
Memorials may be made to The University of Georgia’s football team in Junelle’s honor.
