June Wilkerson Ferguson, known throughout most of her life as June Wilkerson, 90, died on September 18, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Patrick Henry Monfort and Rubye Carroll Monfort. June grew up in Buena Vista, Georgia and Richland, Georgia, and graduated from LaGrange College where she served in many leadership roles and was elected Miss LaGrange College in her senior year. Her interest in the school continued, and she served for a time on its Leadership Council. After graduation, she moved to Atlanta and enjoyed a very active and involved life. June worked in advertising for the Howard Allison Company and for The Auto-Soler Company. She was a long-time member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, where she was a Circle Leader for many years, served on the Administrative Board and the Altar Guild, and was a member of the Timothy Sunday School Class. She was a former member of the Board of the Atlanta Music Club, and enjoyed serving as docent at the Governor’s Mansion. She was a charter member of the Sandy Springs Book Club and the Aberdeen Forest Bridge Club, and a long-time member of her bridge group, The Ladies of the B.C. In 1961, June and several friends – all young mothers – started a luncheon group, known affectionately as The Mother’s Club, which continued to meet long after most members were grandmothers. She loved her family and friends and cherished her role as “Gram” to her grandsons. June was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cullen Christie Wilkerson, in 1981, and by her sister Carolyn Bernard Becker and her second husband, Palmer LeRoy Ferguson. She is survived by her son, Cullen Christie Wilkerson, Jr., his wife, Susan Payor Wilkerson, and her two grandsons, David Cullen Wilkerson and Patrick Lewis Wilkerson; her two sisters, Patricia Hines and Willene Bush; and numerous nieces and nephews. A gravesite memorial service will be held at Westview Cemetery, 1680 Westview Drive, S.W., Atlanta, GA 30310, on Saturday, September 28, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the LaGrange College Fund, 601 Broad Street, LaGrange, GA 30240 in June’s memory, or to Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in June’s memory.
