Joyce was born in East Point, GA, to Joseph and Emeline Suttles on December 14, 1931. She married Alfred D. Odom on June 17, 1950, in Atlanta. She graduated from Russell High School, where she was a cheerleader and voted Senior Superlative, Cutest Girl in her class. She was a devout Christian and loved being surrounded by her family and close friends. She was passionate about gardening, using her artistic talent, and antique shopping with her brother Joe. Joyce loved to make people laugh with her quick wit and she never met a stranger. She was also a lover of all animals, especially her dog Joe.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Al Odom, son Steve Odom, sister Mary Wilkins, and brothers John Suttles, Claude Suttles, and Joe Suttles.
Joyce is survived by her daughters Lynn Hampton (Jerry) and Jenny Odom, sister Nell Caprara, 5 grandchildren (Aaron, Shannon, Brittany, Kristi, and Sims), and 5 great-grandchildren.
The Pallbearers will be Jerry Hampton, Aaron Nash, Paxton Nash, Kellen Nash, Joel Suttles, and Sean Suttles.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Thursday, April 17th, at Sardis Methodist Church, 3725 Powers Ferry Rd NW, Atlanta, GA 30342.
Following visitation, a memorial service will be held at 11:00 with Dr. Chuck Savage of Sardis Methodist Church officiating. The burial will follow at Arlington Memorial, 201 Mount Vernon Hwy, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Arrangements are by H.M. Patterson & Son.
Memorials may be given to Sardis Methodist Church. The family of Joyce Yancey wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff and friends at The Renaissance on Peachtree and the caring staff at Emory Saint Joseph Hospital.
