John Matthew Carden, 74, of Dunwoody, GA (formerly of Linwood, NJ) passed away suddenly from Alzheimer’s disease on April 27, 2013. He was born in Scranton, PA. He received a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Union College by working full time and attending night school for 6 years. He was employed for 26 years at Atlantic Electric utility in South Jersey, attaining the position of Vice President of Operations. After retiring, he started his own electrical forensic engineering practice. He was a long-time member and former president of the National Academy of Forensic Engineers. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Dunwoody, GA. He will remain in the hearts of his wife of 54 years, Linda, son Matthew Carden of Newport Beach, CA, daughter Lee Hazelwood of Atlanta, GA, and his beloved grandchildren, Brian (12) and Erin (10) Hazelwood who were the pride and joy of his life. John was also loved by Matthew’s special partner, Henry Tieu, and Edwin Nelson, Lee’s equally special significant other. John thought of them as sons. He is also survived by his dear sister, Maureen Sweeney, of Wilkes-Barre, PA and numerous nieces and nephews. His favorite pastimes were attending movies and plays, going out to dinner, working on his computer and reading newspapers. He always maintained his sense of humor, love of his family, and confronted his illness with courage and grace.
