Jessie Lee Jackson Korwin, 89, of Atlanta, Georgia, entered into eternal life on December 24th, 2022. She was a native of Wilkinson County, born to Jessie Lamar and Rosa Lee Jackson on October 20, 1933.
She graduated from Brewton Parker College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education, and later in life attended Georgia College & State University for graduate studies in the Arts.
In pursuit of opportunities as an educator, she moved to Winter Haven, Florida in 1959. It was there that she met the love of her life, Wald Mark Korwin, and they married in June 1960. They shared a loving journey for 54 years, which included homes in both Georgia and Tennessee.
Jessie Lee had a fulfilling career as an art teacher in both the Wilkinson and Twiggs County school systems for over 38 years. As a dedicated educator, she was loved by her students and respected by her colleagues.
She was also very accomplished outside of her career. One of her most cherished achievements was establishing the Beaver Creek Arts & Crafts Festival in Ivey, Georgia. In addition, she was instrumental in organizing and executing the Cherry Blossom Festival in Macon, Georgia, in its early years.
For those that knew her, it was clear that Jessie Lee was a shining example of living life to the fullest. She was best known for her love of all people and her kind heart. During her last years she continued pursuing the things she loved the most, to include the arts and close relationships with family and friends. She departed having touched the lives of many people in a meaningful, loving, and helpful way.
Jessie Lee was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her daughter Anita Korwin and her great nephew Jason (Krysta) Harrison; her brother Charles Jackson; a niece and nephew, Celeste (Keith) Harkins and Charlie Jackson; as well as other extended family, numerous close friends and her beloved pet, Fifi.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on March 18, 2023 at H. M. Patterson & Son – Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, with Jason Harrison officiating. The family will receive visitors starting at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the service at 3:00 p.m. A reception is scheduled to follow at Pure Taqueria in Brookhaven, where we will pay tribute with a toast in her honor.
A Celebration of Life service will also be held on April 1, 2023, at Williams White-Columns Funeral Home in Gordon, Georgia, with Jason Harrison officiating. The family will receive visitors starting at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the service at 3:00 p.m. A private burial is scheduled to follow at Snow Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers or monetary donations, the family requests that you spread an act of love and kindness in her honor, in keeping with her unique and special spirit. Whether it be buying a meal or groceries for someone, encouraging a child, delivering treats to first responders, paying a sincere compliment to a person or business, or whatever you feel demonstrates her spirit, please lift a prayer in her memory with your intention, as you make the world a better place.
