Jerry Sawyer

Dr. Jerry Dale Sawyer, 80, of Atlanta, passed away January 28, 2018. He was born in Hurricane Mills, TN back in the olden days, to Mattie Lou Shepard and Walter Oliver Sawyer. Jerry received a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1964. He served as a Specialist in the United States Army. In addition, Jerry earned 3 degrees from Georgia State University: Master of Business Information Systems, Master of Business Administration, and a PhD in Business Management. Following a career in engineering and land surveying with Southern Engineering Company of Georgia and A.O. White, Jr., Consulting Engineer, Jerry began his career as a professor at Kennesaw State University in 1976 and retired in 1998 after having held a number of administrative positions in the Coles College of Business. Teaching was his great passion. He was a talented wood worker, an avid runner, and a devoted Yellow Jacket. Jerry is survived by his wife of fifty years, the former Susan Ross, daughters Cindy Mollard (Roland) of Lawrenceville and Cathy Rice (Scott) of Dunwoody, grandchildren Nathalie Green (Austin), Melanie Mollard, Andrew Rice, Thomas Rice, and great grandson, Sam Green. The youngest of 10 siblings, Jerry is survived by his brother, James Sawyer of Attica, MI. A memorial service will be held at 1PM on Friday February 2, 2018 at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church (see below for address).
