Jean Allen Scherer of Atlanta went to be with her creator/Jesus on Aug 26, 2017. Jean/”Gigi” was born in Thomasville, GA to Lucille Bonner Allen and Edward Lucius Allen, both of prominent pioneer SC families. She spent her childhood in Spartanburg, SC/Charleston SC/Miami FL while her dad worked on different engineering projects for the popular Philip Schutze engineering firm based out of Atlanta. The Allen’s landed in Orlando FL in 1939 and never moved again. Jean Allen graded from Orlando Sr High in 1945 as WW2 winded down and then attended Rollins College, Winter Park FL for 2 years seeking an Art degree. Jean worked her way thru school paying for her own education and decided after 2 years to head to the empire city of the south, Atlanta with 2 friends from Rollins to pursue her lifelong passion of being a stewardess with Delta Airlines. Mom/Gigi spent 20 years with Delta and was part of the famous corporate Delta culture that thrived on taking care of their employees and customers. She loved supporting the Delta clipped wings club after getting her own wings clipped in 1957 to get married to JJ Scherer and begin a family.
She loved helping to support Clipped Wings many local charities that have raised millions of dollars over the past 50 years. She was a past president 1963/64 and held numerous other officer positions thru the years. Jean also loved her Christian faith and was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. Most important to Jean /Gigi was being with her family and countless friends who she loved dearly, including her two sons Jimmy and Bobby, who she was so proud of. Those of us whose lives she touched are truly blessed. She was predeceased by her parents Lucille Bonner and Edward Lucius Allen, her brother, Edward Lucius Allen Jr, Carolyn Allen Brasfield and is survived by her two sons James Allen Scherer of Atlanta and Robert Allen Scherer of Greensboro, GA. as well as her 3 grandchildren, Avery, James and Haley Scherer.
