Jay Christopher Thompson (Chris), age 65, passed away on October 15, 2018. Born to John and Jewell Thompson, raised in New Jersey, his adult years were spent in Annapolis Maryland and in Atlanta and Ellijay Georgia. Those who knew and loved him appreciated his “never met a stranger” approach to life; his charm and fun-loving spirit were enjoyed by all. Chris’ spent much of his career years in the hospitality industry, including serving as Director of Marketing at the Willard Hotel in Washington D.C. In his later years, he helped his sister and brother-in-with their vineyard in Ellijay. One of his greatest talents was his ability to maintain and nurture life-long friendships; boyhood friends (Bob, Johnny, Lynn and many others) remained close to him until his final days. His favorite pastime was, by far, the game of golf. His favorite place on earth was Glacier Park Montana where his family spent many summers at Aunt Ruth’s East Glacier cottage. His greatest pride and joy, however, was his daughter, Waverly. Chris will be greatly missed by his entire family: Waverly; his brother Bill; sisters Lisa and Bobbi; brothers-in-law Marijn and Stan; sister-in-law Sharon; and his many nieces and nephews and their spouses: Chris, Weather, Kelley, Rob, Karen, Robin, Billy, Angie, Mike, Kate, Ryan, Amy, Alex, Anna Grace, Beckett, Bay, Jonah, Tyler and Peyton. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 3 at 11:30 at Ellijay River Vineyards in Ellijay, Georgia. Contributions in honor of Chris may be made to the Glacier National Park Conservancy.
