Born February 2, 1947, in Mobile, Alabama to William Joseph and Edwina Tunstall Brady, Janice was the second of their three children. A proud longtime resident of Alabama, she was educated in the Archdiocese of Mobile Catholic Schools. First at St. Mary’s Catholic School then at McGill-Toolen Catholic High School (formerly Bishop Toolen Catholic High School for Girls), a member of the graduating class of 1965. Janice graduated with an associate degree in business from Faulkner College. She was a parishioner of Saint Pius X Catholic Church while residing in Mobile.
During her early adulthood, Janice was a member of the Order of Polka Dots, the first women’s-only Mardi Gras organization that parades in Mobile. Her professional life was dedicated to educational administration. She was employed at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine across multiple departments for 20 years.
Married in 1975, Janice and her husband of 44 years, Richard, relocated to Atlanta in 1990. She continued her career at Christ the King Catholic School as an administrative assistant and later became director of admissions, where she loved helping children and their families until she retired in 2012. She was a parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Janice loved spending time with friends and family and traveling the world with Richard. Of all the places she visited, her favorite was always the Grand Hotel in Fairhope, Alabama. A classic southern lady with impeccable taste, Janice’s appreciation for beauty and elegance were reflected in her home and a wardrobe filled with chic striped shirts. She loved music with taste ranging from Neil Diamond and Elvis to Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift.
In recent years, Janice was lovingly and tenderly cared for by her devoted daughter Catherine, soon to be son-in-law Greg, and two loving caregivers Debra Hoyte and Judith (Judy) Jackson. Catherine and Debra were by her side when she entered into eternal life.
Janice was preceded in death by her adoring husband Richard Harrison Brown, her son William Patrick Whigham, and brother William Tunstall Brady. She is survived by her daughter Catherine Harrison Brown (Donald Gregory Schrum) of Atlanta, stepdaughter Stephanie Brown Vaughn (Larry) of Birmingham, Alabama and brother Patrick Joseph Brady of Lillian, Alabama. She is also survived by grandchildren Taylor Vaughn Tabb (Coley) and Toney Vaughn and several nieces and nephews.
