Janet L. Klos, 88, died Tuesday, December 20, 2011, of complications related to a stroke. A service will be held on Tuesday, December 27, at 11:00 am at the H. M. Patterson & Son, Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, followed by a graveside service for the family.
Janet was born November 25, 1923 in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of George and Ola B. Barcalow. She was a 55 year resident of DeKalb County, GA, and is survived by two daughters, Kathe Klos Canby (Mrs. William) of Sandy Springs, GA, and Sandra E. Klos of Bala Cynwyd, PA, and her son Christian J. Klos of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by four grandchildren: John Canby and Maggie Canby of Atlanta, GA, Nicholas Schneider of Philadelphia, PA, and Jennifer Klos Sheridan of Redwood City, CA, as well as two great-grandsons, Aidan and Devan Sheridan.
Janet graduated from Rockford College for Women in Rockford, IL, where she majored in music and political science, putting her musical talents to work in her later graduate studies at the Julliard School of Music (NY) and as a piano teacher over many years. In addition to her talent at the piano, she was blessed with a beautiful soprano voice. Janet was also a co-founder of the Young Republicans of DeKalb County in the late l950’s and was very active in politics in the 1960’s.
Janet was also a long time member of the P. E. O. Sisterhood and a past president of Chapter K in Atlanta. Her many interests included classical music, bridge, politics and animal rescue.
