July 9, 1938 to July 23, 2010
After a courageous battle with cystic fibrosis disease, Jim passed away early Friday morning at the age of 72. Jim was the son of James B. Warner, Sr, and Bernice Bick Warner, both from Janesville and retired from the Janesville Gazette. Jim graduated from Janesville Sr. High School in 1956, and became a professional photographer. He married Nancy Jeanne Zigler in 1960 and they opened their own professional photography studio (Studio Warner) in Lake Geneva. Jim went on to enjoy a successful twenty-five year career with Eastman Kodak Company, but took early retirement at age 53 due to health issues. In addition, Jim taught journalism and photography at the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater, The Winona School of Professional Photography and Gwinnett Technical Institute in Atlanta. During his career, Jim and his family lived in San Diego, CA, Mansfield OH, Rochester and Schenectady, NY, Chicago, IL and finally settled in the Atlanta area in 1976. In addition to his career, Jim also served as lay reader at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Atlanta and he and wife, Nancy, fostered over 300 children. Jim enjoyed remodeling the families' many homes, and he was handy with tools and home improvement. Jim enjoyed playing cards, barbecuing, and spending time with family and friends. He served on the board of his neighborhood association, and was involved with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Jim was proud to be an "elder" in the Cystic Fibrosis community and inspired many younger patients to live long, active lives in spite of the disease. Jim had a quirky, dry, sense of humor that endeared him to everyone he met. He was loved by all who knew him. Jim's greatest happiness came from Nancy, his wife of 50 years, their three children, Lisa Wheeler, Debbie Valdez, and James Warner III, and their four grandchildren, Marcie, Briana, Jesse and Cameron. He truly was a family man, who always put the well being of his family first. Services will be held Friday, July 30th at H.M. Patterson and Son Oglethorpe Hill funeral home in Atlanta,Georgia. http://www.hmpattersonoglethorpe.com In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. http://www.cff.org/
