Jim Magbee, born September 22, 1928 passed away on July 22, 2016 after a short illness. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Clare(Tia) Findley Magbee of Duluth Georgia. He was born in Atlanta Georgia and was the son of Thomas Guy Magbee and Janie Lucile Magbee. He was a brother to Fletcher, Bill and Charlie Magbee and Katie Lou Magbee Peacock, all of whom predeceased him.
He graduated from North Fulton High School in Atlanta in 1945 and attended Georgia Institute of Technology from 1945 to 1949. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
Beginning in 1949, he worked with his brothers at Magbee Lumber Company and later Magbee Brothers Lumber and Supply Company until retiring in 1989. In addition, he was a past president of the Georgia Lumber Dealers Association and the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association.
He was a faithful servant and member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church for over 70 years. He was a charter member of Cherokee Town and Country Club and a longtime golfer. Regrettably, he never had a hole-in-one or shot his age. He did however raise several lake levels due to the proliferation of golf balls and clubs deposited into said lakes.
He is survived by his devoted companion, Sara(Sally) Camp Swann, his three daughters Clare Magbee Weaver(Bart), Susan Elizabeth(Beth) Magbee Sherman (Fred), Ellen Magbee Davidson(Charles) and son James Russell Magbee, Jr.(Lila). His surviving grandchildren are Philip Davidson, Eleanor Davidson, Heather Weaver, Colleen Weaver, Barbara Jean Shirley, Jennifer Stafford, Lee Ann Daniel, Tara Sherman and Katie Sherman.
Please join family and friends to celebrate the life of Jim Magbee for a memorial service to be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church with the reception and celebration following at Cherokee Town Club on West Paces Ferry Road.
