James Granville Brown, II died unexpectedly on Sunday, the 19th of March 2017 at the age of 61 . Growing up in Buckhead “Jay” and his two brothers, Chris and Greg Brown, attended Christ the King School through the 8th grade. The brothers were together again at The Lovett School with Jay as the eldest being the first to graduate. After high school he headed to upstate New York and graduated from Bard College located in the town of Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.
Jay was born on June 14, 1955 in Atlanta, Georgia to Renee Reinhard Brown and James R. Brown. He is survived by his mother, Renee and his two brothers Christopher Reinhard Brown and Gregory Cunningham Brown. He is also survived by his mother’s sister, Elyse Reinhard Lawson and his first cousin Blake Lawson and second cousins in Richmond, VA from his mother’s side, Judy Simpson Brown and Connie Simpson Lankford.
He was preceded in death by his father, James R. Brown and his only sister, Renee Elizabeth Brown, who also attended Christ the King School and The Lovett school, died at the age of seventeen.
Jay’s career was as an artist, film maker, and an innovative mudic video director. He worked mainly based out of Los Angeles and London. He always knew what he wanted to do. Aside from all of the music videos he produced and directed and the films he worked on; one of his best works was the documentary film he directed and produced on the life of folk artist, Howard Finster and featured the music group, REM.
The funeral Mass will be held at the Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church at 10:30am on Friday, the 24th of March. Interment will be at Westview Cemetery. A reception in Kenny Hall will be held immediately following the service.
