EGAN, John Hamilton, “Jack”, beloved son of Mike and Mindy Egan, was born on April 27, 1988, and lived a full life over 36 years. He was a loving brother to his three siblings and the “most fun” uncle to his niece and nephew, who completely adored him. Jack possessed a deeply kind and open spirit and loved children and animals. He never met a stranger, often striking up conversations just to make others feel noticed and included. In many ways he was a kid at heart, finding true joy in the little things, from a beautiful sky to a funny video. He had a smile and laugh that lit up his entire face and would quickly brighten the day of those around him.
Jack was a proud native Atlantan, having attended Morris Brandon, The Westminster Schools, and Ben Franklin Academy. He was a fanatical Atlanta sports fan, frequenting Braves and Falcons games with his dad and siblings. His family and friends were consistently entertained by Jack’s enthusiastic commentary around Atlanta sports—an infectious passion that infused all areas of his life. Jack was always up-to-speed on the latest music, shows, and movies, often musing that a series or album was “the greatest ever made.” Thoughtful and curious, Jack loved history documentaries and debating politics. He was constantly on the go, often meeting up with friends in every corner of the country, including to see his favorite band, Phish.
Jack loved the University of South Carolina Gamecocks after his time attending USC as a member of the SAE Fraternity. He went on to graduate from Chapman University in Orange, CA, which initiated a lifelong love affair with southern California, where Jack had scores of friends. A gifted storyteller and salesman, Jack established a successful career in tech sales that took him to New York City, Atlanta, and Los Angeles. During his time in Los Angeles, he enjoyed spending time at the beach and in the great outdoors, something that lifted Jack’s spirit from the time he was a small child.
His family feels blessed to have gathered in July at his younger brother’s wedding in Maine, where Jack’s outgoing and loving personality was evident to all who attended. Jack showcased his animated sense of humor with the funniest, most heartfelt toast of the night, a moment his family will cherish forever. His parents, siblings, friends, and large extended family loved him dearly, and Jack treasured them above all else. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his mother and father, Melinda Beebe Egan and Michael Joseph Egan III; brother, Michael Egan; sister Katie Egan Hammer (Markus); and brother Chas Egan (Caroline). He is also survived by his nephew and niece, Joseph and Annabel Hammer, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 3 p.m. at the Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta, with a reception to follow. His family will hold a second celebration in Los Angeles at a later date. To reflect Jack’s love of kids and sports, his family requests donations to be made in his honor to Good Sports, which promotes equal access to youth sports for children in underserved communities. Donations can be made at GoodSports.org.
