Known as Gary by his family and friends, he was a good son, brother, uncle, and friend of Bill W. Gary was a proud graduate of Georgia Tech and a faithful fan of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets through every football season. He loved his hometown sports teams- particularly Falcons Football and Braves Baseball. While he was generally a quiet man, if there was a game on, that may have been the only time he really raised his voice because of his great passion and love for his sports teams.
Gary also loved driving his legendary midnight blue Pontiac Firebird, his signature car for as long as GM manufactured them. He drove this pure American-made muscle car king and was proud of all that it stood for-reminiscent of a southern rebel always on the run with a long way to go and a short time to get there.
Gary was an active participant in Alcoholics Anonymous with over 40 years of sobriety. He attended and chaired weekly meetings most of his life and was in fellowship with so many others living recovery. His personal story and commitment to sobriety served as a great encouragement to many other troubled souls facing the demon of addiction. We know his influence and legacy will continue to drive the sobriety spirit and serenity for many of his NABA friends.
Gary is survived by four siblings, Joe Collins, Pam Heath (Marty), Paula Satcher (David), Janet Morrow (Michael), many nieces, and a nephew. He was predeceased by his parents, Jack W. Collins, Sr. and Ella Jay Collins, as well as his younger brother, Jack W. Collins Jr. “Wally”. A Graveside service at Arlington Cemetery will be held on Sunday, October 9th at 11:00am. His family and friends will miss him dearly, but we take great comfort in knowing that he is reunited with family and with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in Heaven. Rest In Peace Gary.
