Howard Heard Pope

Funeral services for Mr. Pope will be conducted Thursday February 16, 2023 from 11:00AM to 12:00PM at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt Vernon Hwy NW, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. John Hyche will be officiating.

Mr. Pope was born March 27, 1939 in Franklin, GA to the late Howard Heard Pope and Winnie Lipham Pope. He graduated from Heard County High School in 1959. He worked as a restaurant owner and operator before serving in the Army from 1962 to 1964. Upon completion of his Army service, he moved to Atlanta, GA and was employed by Oxford Chemicals for 20 years. He worked for American Manufacturing for a year before pursuing his passion of starting his own car repair business. He successfully ran Howard’s Service Center until retiring in 2018. He was interested in travel, camping, hunting, music and classic cars.

He is preceded in death by his brother, William Fuller Pope of Dallas, GA; sister, Estelle Pope Moxley Gray of Franklin, GA; sister, Lilly Pope Andrews of Brookhaven, GA; niece, Patricia “Trisha” Pope Aday of Dallas, GA; nephews, Hurley Moxley and Anthony Moxley. He is survived by his sister, Martha Jean Cummins of Jacksonville, FL; niece, Deborah Cummins Mahanay (Jerry) of Jacksonville, FL; several nephews, Billy Pope, John Pope, Steve Pope, Mike Pope of Dallas, GA and Norvell Gray of Franklin, GA , as well as several grand nephews and grand nieces.

A private interment will take place at Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike #300, Rockville, MD 20852.
