Harriett McDaniel Hildreth, best known as “Wow Wow” to her loved ones was born on July 13, 1939 in Atlanta, Ga. She passed away in her city of Atlanta home that she loved so dearly on March 11, 2024. She is preceded in death by her parents, J.G. McDaniel, M.D. and Marguerite McDaniel; her husband, Philip Hildreth; her husband, Robert Wright (father of their children); sister, Marguerite Wood; nephew, Arthur Powell; sister in-law, Frances Hale; and sister in-law Nancy Wright.
Harriett is survived by her loving sons, Robert Wright (Lisa), and their children, Christina Ridlon (Alex), John Wright, Mac Wright (Karen) and their children, Lindsey Martin (Chad), and Harrison Wright (Michelle); and her great grandchildren, Hattie Wright, Logan Wright, Brooks Ridlon and Ava Ridlon.
She is survived by her siblings, brothers, Stuart McDaniel (Sarah), George McDaniel (Mary Sue). Harriett and her siblings shared a close bond and particularly shared a love of “kicking leaves”. Their love for each other inspires us all. She is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A proud Atlanta native, Harriett attended Morris Brandon School and Northside High School. She then went to St. Mary’s College and Georgia State University.
Harriett was involved in various organizations. She was very active in her church, the Cathedral of St. Philip, where she was a Cradle member, a junior Daughter of the King, a Sunday school teacher and was a member of St. Anne’s Chapter and later St. Veronica through the years. She was also active in the Junior League of Atlanta, Gardenia Garden Club, Riverside Book Club and the “WHAT’S” through which she found cherished lifelong friendships.
Her love will endure through the McDaniel family carrying forward a legacy of generosity and southern hospitality. Our “Wow Wow” will always be with us as a beautiful reminder to share love and cherish making memories with Family and Friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Cathedral of St. Philip on Friday, March 15, 2024 at 10:00 am. Reception to follow at the Cathedral. In memory of Harriett, donations may be sent to the Cathedral of St. Philip.
