Harold J. Youmans, 85, departed from this life to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, April 16, 2022. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rosemary Youmans; son David Youmans (Alison); and brother-in-law Richard Scraggs (Hazel). He was preceded in death by mother Ethel, father Ira, and brother Jerry Youmans.
Born August 16, 1936 to the late Ethel Anderson and Ira Youmans, Harold grew up in Hapeville, GA, where he attended Hapeville High School, going on to graduate from Auburn University. On June 22, 1963 he married the love of his life Rosemary Scraggs. They settled in College Park, GA and in 1972 he began his career as an Agent at State Farm in East Point, GA. He thrived in his profession and served his community with great distinction and integrity, retiring in 2008.
Harold was deeply committed to Christ and was a faithful member of First Baptist Atlanta since the early 1980’s. He was active in Sunday school, performing multiple roles in the Atlanta Passion Play and singing tenor in the choir for over 20 years. He was also a lover of the natural beauty of God’s creation and expressed this in his talent for gardening. Whether he was pruning his English boxwoods or planting tulip bulbs, he was happiest using his creative energies in the garden. His appreciation of antiques was illustrated nowhere better than in their colonial Williamsburg home in Vinings, GA, which he and Rosemary built in 1993, inspired by several trips to Williamsburg, VA. What we will all remember the most is that he brought joy and laughter to all who met him. He was always ready with a kind word, a great joke and a desire to connect and make a new friend.
Memorial service will be on Saturday, April 23rd, 2022 at 2:00pm at H. M. Patterson & Son - Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, with visitation beforehand at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at College Park Memorial Cemetery.
Flowers are most welcome but in lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Diabetes Association.
