Hardy Walter Nixon Jr.

Hardy W. Nixon, age 87, formerly of Dunwoody, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2013. Mr. Nixon was a WWII Army Air Corps. Veteran. He graduated from Boy’s High School and attended the University of Akron OH. Hardy loved square dancing, having served as the past President of GSSDA and past Chairman of Legacy International. He retired as a Buyer for Rich’s Dept. Store and then went on to become a successful Business Owner. His hobbies included traveling across the US in his RV, boating, fishing and photography. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Kathryn Williamson Nixon; son, John (Shawn) Nixon; daughters, Judy (Bill) Haygood and Kathy (Allen) Cunningham; grandchildren, Tiffany Spink, Bobby Cunningham, Shannon Sikes, Jimmy Haygood, Kristie Nixon, Lauren Nixon, Stuart Barnes, Elizabeth Barnes, Anne Marie Barlan and 12 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at H.M. Patterson & Son Oglethorpe Hill on Thursday from 5-7 PM. Graveside services will be held at Westview Cemetery at 1:00 PM on Friday with Rev. Sam Davis officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to The Alzheimer’s Association.
