Gertrude Moreland of Peachtree Corners, GA passed away March 26th at 7:00 am. She was born in Americus, GA on October 13, 1923 to Edgar and Annabel Butt. She grew up in Americus, GA and attended Georgia Southwestern College. She moved to Atlanta at the age of 17 years old where she took a room in a boarding house where she would meet her future husband, Jesse Bion Moreland, who predeceased her in 1981. She worked as an administrative assistant for Goodyear Tire Company. After marriage she retired from work to raise her family in DeKalb County. After the death of her husband she resided in Peachtree Corners, GA and became a world traveler, traveling to all points of the globe. She was active in her community as a member Roswell Presbyterian Church, a member of Welcome Wagon, her bridge club, Rivermont Country Club, and her bowling team. She was very proud of the two children she raised. Her daughter, Betts Moreland McGinnis retired as a school principal after thirty plus years in the DeKalb County School System and predeceased her on October 14, 2010. Her son, Jesse Bion Moreland, Jr. is a practicing dentist in Peachtree Corners, GA for 32 years. She is survived by her son, Dr. J. Bion (Pam) Moreland of Johns Creek, GA, son-in-law Jack McGinnis of Roswell, GA, granddaughter Whitney Michelle Moreland of Atlanta, GA, and step-granddaughter Kristian Michal Zanone of Johns Creek, GA. The family will receive visitors at 11:30 am on Saturday before the funeral service that will be held at Patterson’s Oglethorpe Hill Chapel in Brookhaven on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 1:00 in the afternoon. Bill Nisbet, Associate Pastor of Roswell Presbyterian Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her husband. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
