George Davis Webb, JR, 83, of Midtown Atlanta passed away at Brighton Gardens of Buckhead on Monday, November 6, 2017. A visitation will be held Wednesday, November 8 from 5-8PM at HM Patterson and Son, Spring Hill, Atlanta. A graveside service will be held at 11:00AM Thursday, November 9 at Marseilles Cemetery, West Point, Georgia.
George was born in DeKalb County on January 29, 1934, to the late George Davis Webb, SR and Martha Hill Webb. He graduated from Grady High School in Atlanta in 1952 and from Auburn University in 1956. He served in the US Army and the Ready Reserve from 1952-1960. He worked at the Butler Street YMCA for 20 years. A lifetime resident of Midtown, he was a reliable and colorful observer of events and people in Atlanta and Midtown history.
He was a faithful member of the Atlanta First United Methodist Church for 50 years and attended until his declined health in the last few years. An accomplished philatelist, George spent a lifetime collecting and categorizing stamps from around the world. He spent hours researching stamps for his collection and enjoyed this special hobby.
He is survived by cousins Richard Taylor Hill, Rebecca Hill Albarado, Benjamin Harvey Hill III , Martha Webb Ramirez, Jeanette Webb Blankenship, Carol Garrett Webb, Karen Walker, and Michael Cushing. He is also survived by many special friends and Midtown neighbors.
