George Peter Neal, 95, passed away November 4, 2016. Born in Summerville, South Carolina on October 3, 1921, he was the eldest of the five children of Peter and Mary Agnes Neal. He graduated from Summerville High School in 1939 and upon the outset of World War II, he volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Corps and completed over 30 combat missions as a bombardier in a B-17, flying over Nazi occupied Europe. Following his war service, he entered Emory University and graduated from Emory Dental School in 1951. He successfully practiced dentistry in Atlanta for 50 years. He was a member of Delta Sigma Delta, Omikron Kappa Upsilon, the Northern District Dental Society, The Hinman Dental Society, Buckhead Men’s Garden Club and The Cathedral of Christ the King.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, JoAnne Tuggle Neal, daughter and son-in-law Rebecca and Paul McDonald, grandsons, Porter McDonald and Neal McDonald, three great grandchildren, Whit McDonald, Pierce McDonald and Georgie McDonald, sisters, Gertrude Flanagan and Sister Mary Thomas. He was predeceased by brother Elmo Neal and sister Mary Ellen Harrelson.
Family will receive friends at Patterson’s Spring Hill Tuesday, November 8 from 6 until 8 o’clock. A Memorial Mass will be said Wednesday, November 9 at 10:30 o’clock at The Cathedral of Christ the King.
