Frank Wellborn Blalock, Jr., was born May 1, 1926 in Atlanta, Georgia and passed away on May 23, 2011. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Frank Wellborn Blalock, Atlanta, Georgia, and Martha Drake Blalock, Atlanta, Georgia and his sister, Martha Blalock Timmis, Atlanta, Georgia. Frank, affectionately known as Buzz to his family and friends, is survived by his four (4) children, Frank Wellborn Blalock, III, Atlanta, Georgia, Kathleen Blalock Hunsinger (John, deceased) Atlanta, Georgia, Laura Blalock Hicks, (William), Winder, Georgia and Robert Taylor Blalock, Winder, Georgia. Buzz attended Marist High School in Atlanta, Georgia and subsequently the Darlington School for Boys in Rome, Georgia. When Buzz was eighteen (18) years old, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country in World War II in the South Pacific on a destroyer escort. Upon completion of his service to his country, Buzz returned to Atlanta, Georgia where he subsequently attended the University of Georgia and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Subsequent to his graduation from the University of Georgia, Buzz entered the municipal bond business and for many years worked in that field with various local companies, and ultimately retired in the early 1990s. At that time, Buzz relocated to St. Simons Island, Georgia which had been a favorite family vacation spot for many years. There he was able to pursue his greatest hobby, which was golf, and enjoy the warm sunshine of the Georgia coast. During his residency at St. Simons Island, Buzz volunteered for the local Special Olympics. In 2005 Buzz returned to Atlanta, Georgia and subsequently moved to Winder, Georgia in 2007 to live with his son, Taylor Blalock who cared for him in his waning years, where he resided when he passed away. Buzz was a longtime member of the Piedmont Driving Club. Buzz is also survived by his five (5) grandchildren, Johnathan Christopher Hunsinger, Atlanta, Georgia, Matthew Stewart Hunsinger, Atlanta, Georgia, Palmer Whitehead Hicks, II, Athens, Georgia, Collin Wellborn Hicks, Charleston, South Carolina and Kathleen Taylor Blalock, Atlanta, Georgia. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 31, 2011 from 5 until 7 o'clock at Patterson's Spring Hill. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 1 at 3 o'clock at Westview. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Georgia Special Olympics.
