Everett H. Hickcox of Johns Creek peacefully departed this life at the Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth with his wife of nearly 60 years by his side on Tuesday, January 10. A native of Nashville, Tennessee, he enlisted in the United States Army after graduation from high school and served in Italy. After completion of military service, he returned to Tennessee and earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Tennessee. While in college, he met the love of his life, Elinor, at a college eatery known as The Sweet Shop. The couple moved to Atlanta in 1957 after which Mr. Hickcox operated several successful businesses including Ashmore Foods, Century Rent-A-Car, multiple Budget Rent-A-Car franchises, and a billboard sign company. Always the entrepreneur, he remained active in business until his passing, giving advice on business operations from his hospital bed. Mr. Hickcox was a past president and member of the Atlanta Airport Rotary Club for many years. He was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International. In addition to his civic service, Mr. Hickcox was very active in North Avenue Presbyterian Church where he served multiple terms as an Elder on the Session. His passion for business was exceeded only by the love he had for his family. He is survived by his wife Elinor of Johns Creek; his daughter and her husband, Cathey and Dave Sutton of Alpharetta; his son and his wife, Jeff and Vicki Hickcox of Atlanta; two granddaughters Brittany and Lauren Hickcox of Atlanta; his sister Ethel Shaffer of Hendersonville, TN; nieces, nephews, and a host of good friends and business associates. He was a caring and wonderful husband and father who will be missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be from 4-6 pm on Friday, January 13 at H.M. Patterson & Son, Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta, GA 30319. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 14 at 11 am at North Avenue Presbyterian Church, 607 Peachtree Street, NE, Atlanta, GA 30308.
