Edwin Francis Farley, formerly of Drexel Hill, Pa., residing in Atlanta, Ga., passed away peacefully on May 8, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, inspiration, and optimism.
Born on September 8, 1938, Ed brought joy and laughter to the lives of all who knew him with his witty jokes and good humor. Growing up in Drexel Hill, Pa., he attended Saint Andrews Catholic School for grade school, West Catholic High School, and St. Joseph’s University for college. He played baseball in his childhood and enjoyed playing tennis and golf throughout his life. Ed spent the majority of his working years at ASHRAE Journal and genuinely enjoyed the company of his coworkers and attending trade shows in Canada, Germany, and across the United States. He was a steadfast fan of the Eagles, Phillies, and Atlanta Braves. Ed had a passion for traveling the world and went to many countries in Europe, the Caribbean, Central America, South Africa and throughout the United States, including Alaska. He was a devout Catholic throughout his life, and loved the music of Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash, and Elvis. Ed enjoyed his retirement years at Lake Oconee with his wife, Sheila, boating and watching the birds off the balcony, while enjoying a scotch or bourbon at Happy Hour, noting “it’s 5’ o’clock somewhere.” He had an innate awe and wonder with the world around him that he shared with loved ones.
He will be fondly remembered for his tremendous historical knowledge, great conversations, and love of life, which enriched the lives of those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him. Eddie approached each day with a spirit of resilience, optimism, and generosity that inspired all who had the privilege of knowing him. In his passing, we find solace in the cherished moments we shared with him and the profound influence he had on our lives.
