Edith Lorraine Hicks "Edie", age 59 of Norcross, GA went to be with the Lord on Monday June 8th after a brief but courageous battle with cancer surrounded by her loving family. Born in Atlanta on December 5th 1960 to Curtis O Hicks and Barbara B Hicks, Edie was a wonderful, caring, and thoughtful daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She was a lifelong learner and a voracious reader. Edie had a multitude of talents that led to several successful career pursuits. Starting at a young age in the bar and restaurant industry, Edie was promoted quickly and always rose to take on more and more responsibility. She was proud of the fact that she was the first female manager for the Applebee’s restaurant chain. Edie was always a hard worker, excellent with numbers, and was seen as a valuable employee wherever she worked.
Edie left the hospitality industry to pursue a career in property management. Starting first with the Lincoln Property Company followed by the Gables Management Company, and most recently Community Management Associates, CMA. Edie won numerous awards and recognitions wherever she worked. She was always improving her position and increasing her value to the companies she served through continued education and pursuing the highest designations in her field. Edie was an independent thinker but loved being part of a team. She was well respected by her colleagues wherever she worked and made many close and lasting friendships throughout her employment career. She was a mentor to her younger brother Art who often followed Edie's career path working with her at various times. Edie was a licensed real estate sales agent as well as a property manager.
Edie was tough and competent but completely feminine. She loved the color pink. She had pink outfits, pink luggage, and only recently purchased a pink refrigerator. She loved to travel, loved fine dining, reading, fashion, beautiful furnishings, and jewelry. Her love of jewelry led her to try working for a short time in the retail jewelry industry. Edie was kind, thoughtful, and generous. She often picked up the check or paid for a friend or family member's travel expenses to enjoy vacations together that could not otherwise be afforded. Edie made a point of showing up for family functions and remembering birthdays and recognizing the milestones in other's lives. She was the glue that held together the extended family of siblings, spouses, cousins, nieces, and nephews. As the daughter of the family, she had a special bond with both her father and mother. She reveled in the attention from her dad, Curtis Sr, later in life and became the little princess she always wanted to be. She had a deep love and friendship with her mother, Barbara, enjoying all of the special bonds of mothers and daughters including nails, shopping, dining, and catching up over a glass of wine. From an early age, her brother Art was her best friend and confidant throughout their lives often working together and sometimes living as roommates.
Edie was a risk taker, was brilliant, brave, strong, and independent. She loved to talk and share experiences, have fun, and help others. She was beautiful, kind, caring. She especially found joy in the company of family and close friends. She was curious about life and loyal to those for which she cared. Edie will be greatly missed by everyone that knew her and loved her. Edie is survived by her mother, Barbara Bowen Hicks, her brother, Curtis Hicks, Jr (Debbie), her brother Joseph Hicks (Jennie), brother Allen Hicks, and sister Tara Drummond, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Edie was predeceased by her brother Arthur E Hicks, her father Curtis O Hicks, her paternal grandfather Glenn E Hicks, her paternal grandmother Idoma Moore and her husband Edwin, and her maternal grandparents Arthur and Edith Bowen.
We will carry Edie in our hearts and souls for the wonderful life and legacy that she shared with us.
