David Maurice Bradfield, 92, of Atlanta, GA passed away peacefully on the morning of June 7th, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Hannah Bradfield, his first wife, Anita Bradfield, brothers Dick, Jim, Bob, Tan, and his second wife, Nancy Bradfield. He is survived by his sister Patricia, daughter Susan, stepsons Sam and Billy, stepdaughters Katie and Jennifer and grandchildren Emily, Hannah, Paul, Ryan, Davis, Kyle, and Oz.
Dave was born February 11th, 1932 in Columbus, OH before moving to Ithaca, NY for his father’s job as a professor at Cornell. Growing up, he loved playing sports including baseball, football, and basketball. He went on to have a stellar athletic career at Cornell as the captain of both the basketball and lacrosse teams. In his senior year, his basketball team made it to the NCAA championship after winning the Ivy League. He humbly asserted that they immediately lost! He was later inducted into the Cornell Hall of Fame for his strong performance as the point guard in the 1950s.
Following college, he enrolled in the army and served as an anti-aircraft artillery officer in Anchorage, AL. But if you asked him, he would say “I just played basketball in Alaska!” He got bad assignments from his senior officers since they saw coaching basketball as goofing off. When he left the service two years later, he used the GI bill to get his MBA from Cornell. His first business job was working for Vick’s Chemical selling vapo-rub to drug stores across all 48 states in a car with no air conditioning. He was proud to have visited all 50 states. After learning these invaluable sales skills, he went on to work for General Electric where he met his first wife, Anita Terrinoni. They married October 3rd, 1959, in Chicago, IL and both went back to work two days later!
In 1962, their daughter Susan was born in St. Louis, MO. Over the coming years, the family moved for his work to Cincinnati, Atlanta, and back to Cincinnati. Sadly, Anita developed ovarian cancer and passed away in November of 1983. Dave moved back to Atlanta to join EIS in 1984 and soon met his second wife, Nancy Fleming, through a mutual friend. They married on January 10th, 1987, and were happily married until her passing in 2023.
Dave will always be remembered for the love and compassion that he showed to others. He was abundantly generous and loved volunteering at St. Joseph’s hospital in retirement. He had a steadfast love for Jif peanut butter, Christmas, and golf (in that order).
Dave always said, “If I can’t eat it, drink it, or read it, I don’t want it as a gift!”
Despite that quote, we invite contributions to the Alzheimer's Association in lieu of flowers to honor his amazing legacy.
