Dan loved life. He wanted to enjoy and participate in everything. He loved music and actually studied music in college before switching to nursing. He loved playing the piano. He loved to travel and traveled extensively including over twenty cruises. He loved people and he loved to laugh. He always had a winning smile, and never met a stranger. He just had a way about him of making people want to be his friend, and he had many people in his life that he considered close friends. He loved deeply and was loved deeply by many. He was generous to a fault and always tried to help anyone that came to him. He became a Rn. in the 80’s and moved to Atlanta. He began his career at Crawford Long Hospital (now known as Emory Hospital Midtown) working in the Cardio Thoracic ICU unit. After many years he stepped back from nursing and along with his former partner Michael May ran two very successful gift and accessories stores called Hospitality House. They closed the stores in 2004 and he returned to nursing at Emory Midtown working in the Cardio Thoracic step down unit until he retired in 2015. He and Jim moved to Florida until fall of 2020 when they decided to move back to Atlanta, a city that he truly loved.
His funeral arrangements are being handled by H.M. Patterson Funeral Home Oglethorpe Hill. He is being cremated and there is no visitation. A Celebration of Life will be planned in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be made to the American Liver Foundation, Doctors Without Borders, or in light of recent events, a food bank in your local community.
