Dan Hall of Atlanta, GA passed away suddenly of natural causes on December 5, 2016. He was a man among men.
Dan was born in Elkin, North Carolina and was a graduate of the Elkin High School Class of 1965 where he lettered in football and tennis. During the summers, he worked in his family’s business, Colonial Gulf Oil Distributers, and for Warren Miller Funeral Home.
Dan attended Wingate College, East Tennessee State University and New York University School of Business earning Bachelors and Masters in Finance and Economics. He was president of his fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon, at ETSU.
Dan served proudly in the United States Army National Guard ,as an Emergency Services Mission Pilot with the Civil Air Patrol and as the Finance Officer for the Atlanta Senior Squadron #1.
Dan began his investment career in New York in 1972 with EF Hutton & Company. He became Senior Vice President and the Manager of the Public Finance Division. Later he joined First Boston Corporation as a Director and Manager of Public Finance Investment Banking. In 1983, Dan was awarded Institutional Investors Magazine ‘s Municipal Deal of the Year Award.
In 1990, Dan became Vice President of the Atlanta office of Kidder Peabody & Co., which subsequently was acquired by UBS in 2000. In 2009 ,he joined Register Financial as a Senior Vice President. Dan focused on private wealth management and corporate retirement plans. Having been in the financial services industry for 44 years, Dan was looking forward to retirement on January 21, which would have been his 70th birthday.
He was a member and Lay Minister of St Philip’s Episcopal Church and served on the Funeral Guild. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Atlanta WWII Round Table, Atlanta Civil War Round Table, Heritage Foundation, NRA, Screen Actors Guild and a Board Member of Entrepreneurial Advisors. He was a long time member of Cherokee Town & Country Club where he looked forward to his bi- weekly lunches with his friends at the “round table.”
Dan enjoyed golfing, hunting, and flying as a private pilot.
He was a prolific reader of history, a creative writer and an eloquent public speaker. In quoting one of Dan’s last public speeches ” Do as much as you can, for as many as you can, for as long as you can. I challenge each of you to live your life in such a way that when you are at the end of time on this mortal coil, those who mourn and those who are left behind will admire and honor what you did and the way you lived your life. God Bless you all and God Bless America.”
Dan is survived by his wife Catherine Davis Hall, of Atlanta, GA, son John D. Hall III, and wife, Jennifer, and granddaughter Ava of Seattle, WA, brother Deane Hall and wife, Brenna, of Jacksonville, FL, mother Thelma Hall of St. Augustine, FL, mother-in-law Reta Davis of Johnson City, TN, brother-in-law Carter Davis and wife, Angelia, of Tyrone, GA. and many cousins, nieces and nephews. His father, John D. Hall and his son Adam W. Hall precede him in death.
The memorial service will be held at 10am on Friday, January 20th 2017 at The Cathedral of Saint Philip, followed by a celebration of life at Cherokee Town and Country Club.
