Cynthia Lowe Bender, 53, died peacefully at home on June 11, 2013. She is survived by her husband Todd of Alpharetta, her son Patrick Coughlin, daughter-in-law Stacey and granddaughter Kinley Anne of Dawsonville. She is also survived by her parents, Fulton County Commissioner Tom Lowe and former State Representative Bettye Lowe, her brothers Tim and Scott of Atlanta, and her sister Kathryn Blackburn of Auburn, AL.
Cynthia was born at Piedmont Hospital May 2, 1960. She was an Alpha-Omega graduate of the Westminster Schools, attended Sweetbriar College and graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications.
Cynthia had a major role in promoting both the 1983 Country Music Awards in Nashville, TN and, in 1984, a burgeoning Women’s Health Center in Louisville, KY. Cynthia moved home to Atlanta and led many projects for the Barber Construction Company and enjoyed being the general manager of Pet Lodge in Alpharetta. She finally settled into her favorite role as wife and grandmother, spending as much time as she could with her beloved Kinley Anne. Alongside Cynthia, you would always find her faithful Australian shepherd, Tuck.
Cynthia was a Phoenix Society Debutante, an avid horsewoman, traveler, swimmer and sun-worshipper. She was known by her family and friends for her sense of humor and daring spirit, her incredible smile, and for always putting others ahead of herself. She was a beautiful person who was loved by all who knew her.
The family will welcome friends on Monday June 17, at 2:00 p.m., followed by the Funeral Service, at 3:00 p.m. at the Episcopal Cathedral of St Philip at 2744 Peachtree Road NW, Atlanta, GA 30305. Interment will take place at the Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in the name of Cynthia Lowe Bender to the Navy SEAL Foundation. Cyndi was very proud of her family’s work with the SEAL community, and contributions will honor her memory by remembering those who keep all of us safe.
