Costas Kacur, age 85, passed away on February 27, 2018 in Atlanta. Born Konstantinos Kakouriotis on November 19, 1932 in Argos, Greece, Costa was a witness to the Italian fascist invasion of his hometown, followed by the Nazi Germans in 1941. He lost his father at an early age to a German mine mishap along the coast near his family’s farmlands. As an only child, he helped his mother maintain their orange groves and vineyards. At age 19, Costa immigrated to Atlanta under the sponsorship of his paternal uncle Victor Brown (born Efthimios Kakouriotis) and began working in the restaurant business. He was proprietor of L’il Gus’ Rathskeller on Piedmont Road and Stan’s Waffle house at Pershing Point. Both popular Atlanta establishments at their time. Upon retiring at age 57, Costa travelled annually to his beloved “patrida” – his homeland of Greece. He maintained a home at the seaside port of Nafplion. With his wife Kiki, and often with his son Petro and daughter-in-law Helen, he toured mainland Greece and its islands. Costa and Kiki also visited more than a dozen European countries. As a member of the Greek Orthodox Church and its community, Costa devoted much time to its numerous philanthropic projects through his involvement with The Order of AHEPA, Danaos Society of Argos and the Arcadian Society. Costa is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Kiki; son Petro Kacur and his wife Helen Paparodis Kacur; and by first cousins in Atlanta, Paris and Athens, Greece including Helen Pantelis, Peter Tiller, Bia Mackendree, Niko Tselepatiotis, Angie Kontostergios and Vasiliki Petrakis. A visitation will be held Sunday, March 4 from 5 – 7 p.m. at H.M. Patterson & Son – Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, GA 30319. The funeral will be held Monday, March 5 at 11 a.m. at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2500 Clairmont Road, Atlanta GA 30329.
