Charlie Paul Tyson, of Decatur, GA., passed away on November 24, 2022. Charlie was born the son of Charlie Paul Tyson and Effie Mae Bridges on August 27, 1934 in Adel Georgia where he met and married his first wife, Joan Sumner. He served in the U.S. Army as part of the U.S. occupation forces in Germany and later as a reservist and was honorably discharged in 1963. He retired from civil service as a computer programmer after nearly 30 years working for three different organizations, the U.S. Postal Service, the Federal Aviation Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Charlie was preceded in death by his second wife, Pat Michael. He is survived by his son Paul Tyson, former daughter-in-law Maureen McLoughlin and his grandson Chris Tyson; his daughter Pam Tyson and her husband Harald Pietz; and his step-daughter Lorri Cabe, husband Jeffery Cabe and their two children Cassidy and Carley Cabe.
Charlie grew up and worked on the family farm where hard work and determination shaped his life. Throughout his life he was a car enthusiast and enjoyed many activities, such as fishing, motorcycle riding, and fixing and repairing almost anything! He was an avid reader and volunteered his time to help manage the library at his retirement community. He loved all animals …especially his cats. But his true love was spending time with his beloved wife, Pat, at their vacation home in Mexico Beach, Florida.
There will be a remembrance at the Mansions of Decatur retirement community and a private celebration of life in Mexico Beach, FL in Spring 2023.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the ASPCA or the American Heart Association.
