Cecil Turner was born on Sunday, June 16, 1918 in Turner County, GA, the son of Hattie (Couch) and Newt Turner. He died Sunday, February 21 of natural causes. A graduate of Boys' High, the University of Georgia, and Atlanta Law School, Mr. Turner served as an Atlanta City Alderman from the Sixth Ward from 1961 to 1973 and as a representative for Fulton County to the Georgia General Assembly from1967 to 1969. He served as a delegate to the 1968 Democratic National Convention. He retired from the real estate division of the City of Atlanta's Law Department in 1984. He was preceded in death by his wife,Claire A. Turner, and by his four older brothers: Richard, M.L., Clyde and Hewlett. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mary-Elizabeth and William Ellard, and by many nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, February 25th from 7-9PM at H.M. Patterson & Son, Spring Hill. A graveside service will be held at Westview Cemetery on Friday, February 26th at 11AM with a memorial service and reception to follow at 2PM at Northside Drive Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Northside Drive Baptist Church.
