Cecil was granted life on March 17, 1938, in Brooklyn, NY to Nettie and Cecil Cannon, Sr. He grew up in Atlanta, Ga, attended North Fulton High School and served in the United States Army. His life was changed forever with the marriage to his wife Ann Bartlett for 43 years until her passing in 2010. His career was not set in stone, but instead spread amongst anyone who would ask for help. Starting in a small potato chip company, he finalized his retirement from Georgia Power after 27 years, but always kept up with his owl research group. After retiring, Ann said to follow your passion, which is not sitting at home. For 28 years, he conducted the train at Stone Mountain Park and loved the connection to people. Cecil would drive charter buses, church vans, trains, Police vehicles, and a big heart. A generous giver of words and friendship to anybody who lends an ear or an armstrong heater when asked. His strong faith led him to charter the course of Wieuca Road Baptist Church and onward to First Baptist Church Decatur. Love for Ann and his family was and is plentiful without exception. Cecil and Ann both developed a fondness for rescue greyhounds and adopted several. Cecil was also fond of a "meat and three"`at Matthews Cafeteria in Tucker and a "What'll Ya Have?" hot dog at the Varsity.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, Nettie and Cecil Cannon, Sr, his wife, Ann Bartlett Cannon, and his sister, Farris Horak (Rudy).
Cecil is survived by his son, Bain Cannon, daughter, Casey and husband Caldwell Smith, granddaughter, Millie Smith, and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Cecil will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at H.M. Patterson & Son-Oglethorpe Hill followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. A private burial will follow. Arrangements are by H.M. Patterson & Son-Oglethorpe Hill.
