Carolyn Ellis McLean passed away peacefully at home Sunday, January 20, 2019 after a long battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome and Leukemia. Always, thoughtful, caring and warm, Carolyn brightened so many lives. Her passion for learning she shared with 24 classes of first graders at Pace Academy where she also developed lifelong friendships. Ever the creative spirit, her approach to children was always innovative and cheerful.
As a grandmother, she was not only a teacher, but also an artist, a confidante, and disciplinarian. Her influence on so many is timeless. Her loyalty and devotion to her husband was paramount to her life. High school sweethearts, and married 55 years, Carolyn and Andy loved each other with all their hearts. Her unwavering support of her husband was extraordinary and inspiring always lifting him toward his aspirations. Carolyn was an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was loved by so many, and will be missed by all.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her Mother Mary Scudder, father Philip Scudder and brother Clinton Scudder. She is survived by her husband, C.Andrew McLean III, daughter Ann McLean Nagle, son-in-law William B. Nagle III (Tripp), her grandson William Nagle (Liam), granddaughter Elizabeth Nagle (Elsa) of Atlanta, and her sister Virginia Scudder of Orlando.
Visitation will be held at Patterson Spring Hill on Spring Street Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 8:00. The family will gather for a graveside service at Arlington Cemetery on Thursday.
