Carolyn was born in Atlanta, Georgia, to James Orby Shaw and Minnie Velma Fields on February 7, 1944. She attended Avondale High School in Decatur, Georgia. She married Robert Hugh King, Sr., on June 13, 1959.
Carolyn worked as a Health Care Professional and held Vice President level positions at Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Northside Hospital. She was a member of the Johns Creek Rotary Club and a Founding Member of the Northside Hospital Forsyth in Cumming, Georgia. Carolyn was raised in Calvary Baptist Church in South Dekalb County, and she is currently a member of Johns Creek Baptist Church in Forsyth County.
She enjoyed dancing, driving old classic cars, classic movies, and The Varsity.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, James Orby Shaw and Minnie Velma Shaw. Her sister, Mildred Shaw Skelton, and two brothers, James Shaw, Jr., and Charles Shaw, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son and his wife, Robert Hugh King, Jr. and Mari Beth King, and her daughter, Rebecca King Welch, her grandchildren and spouses, Robert Tyler King and Anna Linkenauger King, Kara King Brunelle and Parker Lee Brunelle, Kelsey King Walker and Jason Lee Walker, Leeanna Kay Welch, and Alexis Lynn Welch, and her great-grandchildren, Holden Lee Brunelle, Bennett King Brunelle, Sloane West King, and Madison Tyler King.
Pallbearers will be Tyler “Chas” King, Parker “Park Star” Brunelle, Jason “Johnny” Walker, and Carter “Beef” Brunelle.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, March 25, 2022, at H.M Patterson & Son - Oglethorpe Hill Chapel. Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs.
Arrangements are by H.M. Patterson in Brookhaven, Georgia. Family requests no flowers. Please send donations to the American Diabetes Association.
