Carol Maddox Forrester

A native Atlantan, Carol was born September 9, 1968, the youngest daughter of Helen and the late Henry Maddox. She graduated from the Lovett School and the University of Kentucky where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.

After college graduation, Carol’s first job was with the Robinson Humphrey Company in Atlanta. She moved to Los Angeles where she worked with the William Morris Agency and later with California Closets. Upon returning to Atlanta, Carol drew upon her work experience and talent for organization to form her own personal organizing business, Life Made Simple.

Carol was a very skilled equestrian. She developed a passion for horses and riding that began early in her life and continued into adulthood. Her area of expertise was in the Hunter/Jumper discipline and she enjoyed showing her horses competitively across the Southeast.

She was an enthusiastic supporter of Georgia Tech Athletics with a long-standing connection to Tech through her father, Henry, and later her husband, Carlton. Carol made her debut with the Atlanta Debutante Club and was an active member of Northside United Methodist Church.

Carol fell in love with and married former Georgia Tech golf team All-American, Carlton Forrester of Gainesville, Georgia and was the loving mother of their two young sons, Carlton Jr. and Henry. After residing in Birmingham, Alabama early in their marriage, they returned to Atlanta to raise their boys. Carol and Carlton loved to travel and had the opportunity to take many memorable trips together as Carlton continued to compete in national amateur tournaments.

Carol was kind, generous and loyal. She had a large circle of friends that she treasured and the positive impact she made on each of them will not be forgotten. As the youngest of the “Maddox Girls”, Carol’s presence will be deeply missed by her two older sisters, Helen and Nancy and mother Helen. They shared so many close times traveling together and just enjoying each other’s company. Above all that she accomplished in her life, Carol was most proud of her roles as wife and mother. Carlton, Carlton Jr. and Henry were precious to her and she loved them very dearly. Carol was so loved and will be missed by so many. She died peacefully surrounded by her family.

The entire family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to each person for their overwhelming outpouring of love and support. We would also like to extend our deep thanks and appreciation to her doctors, healthcare workers and caregivers.

Carol is preceded in death by her father, William Henry Maddox III of Atlanta, her grandparents, Betty McDuffie and William Henry Maddox Jr., and Helen Burney and Walter King Grant Sr., all of Atlanta. She is survived by her husband, Carlton Montgomery Forrester and sons Carlton Montgomery Forrester Jr. and Henry Grant Forrester of Atlanta; mother, Helen Grant Maddox of Atlanta; sisters, Helen Maddox Menefee and her husband, Fred Menefee of Decatur and Nancy Maddox Lewallen of Gainesville; uncles, Phillips McDuffie Maddox, David Wallace Maddox, Alan Walker Maddox and Walter King Grant Jr., all of Atlanta; aunt Constance Grant Goodsell of Atlanta; nephew John Frederick Menefee Jr. of Decatur; nieces Helen Grant Menefee of Decatur, Nancy McDuffie Lewallen and Lauren Jacqueline Lewallen of Gainesville and many other beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

The memorial service will be held at two o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the first of February at Northside United Methodist Church, 2799 Northside Drive NW, Atlanta, Ga. 30305. The family will receive visitors in the Faith and Arts Center following the service.
