One of the investments was a movie starring Don Knots and Tim Conway called “Private Eyes”. Barney had a cameo appearance as the one and only Wookalar. Ok, I will answer your question, “What the heck is a Wookalar”. It is a man-like creature with superhuman strength and a pig-like face. Contrary to popular opinion at that time, Barney did not receive an Academy Award for his performance in the movie. At the time of his death, Barney was still waiting to be memorialized on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He raised money through a private placement partnership to purchase a bankrupt food producing plant in Stone Mountain, GA. He successfully developed the company which provided MREs to soldiers during the Gulf War, and later sold the company to Heinz. Upon the sale, Barney personally donated proceeds from his own profits to the current employees based on their years of service. One long-time employee stated, “As a result of this bonus you paid us, I am now capable of purchasing a home for my family.” Barney and his wife, Karen were founding members of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marietta, GA. He regularly provided soldiers' Christmas dinner at the USO Center in the Atlanta airport. Barney was a member of Research & Development Associates (R&DA) for Military Food and Packaging Systems for thirty-three years, he also served as chairman of R&DA, and was chairman emeritus when he passed.
