Barbara was born in Augusta, GA to the late Joseph B. and Willie S. Shirley on August 13, 1935. She married Alvin (Al) Etherage Morris, Jr. on July 8, 1954 in Augusta, GA. She was a loving mother and homemaker during the early years of marriage, and enjoyed playing cards, softball, and bowling. She later worked as an office and marketing manager for Eckerd Drug Pharmacy and McLane/Southeast Company. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, participating in the choir and other church ministries over the years. Her many talents included cooking, cross-stitch, crochet, and flower gardening. She was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan, supporting both UGA football and gymnastics, and a member of the Georgia Bulldog Motor Coach Club and the 10-0 Booster Club. Barbara and Al enjoyed their retirement years with friends at Unicoi Springs Camp Resort in the North Georgia Mountains. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister; she enjoyed most being surrounded by her family and friends.
Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alvin E. Morris, Jr., her parents, Joseph B. and Willie Stewart Shirley, and her siblings: Martha Francis Nikolai, J.W. Shirley, Clyde Shirley, and her twin sister, Betty Jo Hilliard.
She is survived by her children Bryan (Donna) Morris of Winder, Lanny Morris of Sugar Hill, and Susan (Jack) Johnson of Brookhaven; grandchildren Michael (Molly) Morris, Jack (Kimberly) Johnson III, Thomas (Cara) Johnson, Ryan Morris, Joseph (Elizabeth) Johnson, William Morris, and Andrew Morris; and great grandchildren, Avery Kay, Evelyn Jo, Jackson Michael, George Arthur, and Emerson Charlotte.
For the safety of family and friends, the memorial service will be postponed until after the pandemic. Memorial contributions can be made to The Alzheimer’s Association. Barbara’s family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to her care team at Fountainview Center for Alzheimer’s Disease that provided such tender, loving care along with laughter and many smiles.
