Barbara Banks Gatehouse

Barbara Banks Gatehouse of Decatur, Georgia passed away August 8, 2012. A native of North Carolina, Barbara was a devoted Sister, Wife, Mother, and Grandmother. Mrs. Gatehouse attended the University of North Carolina, Charlotte and Mercer University, Atlanta. Barbara’s interest in Art and History led to her involvement in the Michael C. Carlos Museum, where she was a member of the inaugural Docent Guild of the museum. Barbara enjoyed reading, playing tennis, and playing with her grandson. Barbara truly loved her family and will be missed forever. Survivors include her husband, H. Elliott Gatehouse, Jr.; daughter, Lisa Michelle Gatehouse; son and former daughter-in-law, H. Elliott Gatehouse, III and Susan; grandson, Connor Banks Gatehouse; sisters, Beverly Ledford and Maja Norman of Charlotte NC; mother-in-law Mildred T. Gatehouse. A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 18th at 11 o’clock at Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University or Children’s Health Care of Atlanta. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 at H.M. Patterson & Son, Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta, Georgia, 30319.
