Willie Mae Tuck (Escoe) loved the Lord, her Children and her Church. She passed away in her home on Wednesday, July 13, 2011. ‘Mom’, ‘Mother’, ‘Nunnie ‘were all names that were sung through the hallways of her home daily and for 94 years the ever-expanding Tuck family was blessed by her gracious hospitality, her loving spirit and her creativity.
Her music rings in our hearts and minds…her beautiful singing voice, her love of the piano, her love of hymns. Yet her song of art and her song of nature were just as memorable. She could sew a beautiful dress or draw a portrait; she would serve a meal for 20 with a smile on her face; and yet Willie Mae had the gentle nature to have the birds and squirrels as her pets eating from her hand. It is certain that Ms. Tuck has joined the Angels in heaven singing for all eternity.
Ms. Tuck is survived by her four daughters and three sons-in-law: Peggy and Jim Williams of Greensboro, GA, Sandra and Bobby Poss of Athens, Loree Bonner of Atlanta, and Theresa and Dr. Bill Wade of Athens. Ms. Tuck is now in heaven with her beloved husband of 42 years, Cleo Arvid Tuck, the former owner of Tuck’s Shoe Service in downtown Athens.
Pallbearers will be Ms. Tuck’s grandsons, Heyward Woodward, Eddie Groover, Jeff Groover, Russell Foster, Jason Williams and great-grandson, Cameron Woodward. And the Honorary Pallbearers will be her nine additional grandchildren and eight additional great-grandchildren.
Ms. Tuck suffered from Alzheimer’s for the last 11 years and was supported by her loving caregivers Lorrene Adams, Robin Smith, and Della Wymbs. These three loving women have become an extension of the Tuck family. A special thanks is also extended to ‘Compassionate Care Hospice of Athens’ for their service in her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Funeral services will be held 3PM Sunday, July 17th in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev Jason Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2-3PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
