Dr. William ‘Bill’ Wade passed away around 10pm on October 13, 2014 of a heart attack at 61 years of age. Known as a devoted husband and family-man, a great spiritual leader, a brilliant professor of pharmacy, and a loving community pharmacist, Wade will be greatly missed.
Bill Wade was married to his wife Theresa for 38 years and lived in Athens, GA. Their life was a storybook romance and a solid, Christian marriage. They enjoyed traveling and dining together. They will forever be best friends. And his father, as well as, his brother and his family, always counted on Bill to make sure their family stayed in communication and received the best of care.
As a spiritual leader, Bill was an active member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher of more than 20 years. Wade also served as a lay minister and spread the gospel throughout the community.
Dr. Wade was also admired by his professional peers and students. Dr. William ‘Bill’ Wade was named the first Kroger Professor in Community Pharmacy at the University of Georgia in 2008 and was funded by a $250,000 endowment from the Kroger Company. As a professor in the Department of Clinical and Administrative Pharmacy for 35+ years, Wade, his team and his students conducted pharmaceutically related research for diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, pulmonary disease, infectious diseases and more.
Wade will be remembered for his sustained excellence in the training and preparation of his students for community pharmacy and improved patient care.
Prior to his professorship, Wade was a community pharmacist. There was not a day that went by that someone didn’t mention to Theresa how much they missed seeing him working in a local pharmacy. His kindness and commitment to quality care always rang true.
As mentioned, Dr. William ‘Bill’ Wade is survived by his wife, Theresa Tuck Wade; father, Dr. A.E. Wade, Jr.; his brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Nancy Wade; as well as his nephews Alex, Ben and niece, Mary Wade.
Bill Wade will be remembered as a dedicated family man who loved the Lord. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
Services will be held at Bernstein Funeral Home. The family will be hosting a 2pm visitation and the funeral service will begin 3pm. Doug Nix, The Discipleship Pastor and Bill Ricketts, the Pastor of Prince Avenue Baptist Church will be officiating. Dr. Wade will be buried following the funeral service at Evergreen Memorial Park.
