Virginia was born on August 18, 1939 in Royston, Georgia to the late Otis and Willie Bruce. As a child, she lived on Staten Island, New York and attended P.S. 30 and Curtis High School. She also spent a few years in high school and college in Oklahoma.
Virginia started her career as an X-Ray technician at the former Willowbrook State School until its closing and she was later employed at Merrill-Lynch as a technician in their medical department. After she retired, she moved to Athens, Georgia in 1996.
Virginia had a great love of God, her family and New York City. She enjoyed traveling to the New York City area to visit family, friends and former neighbors.
Virginia was preceded in death by her former husband, Pete Etheridge.
She is survived by her brother, Otis Bruce; her sisters, Yvonne Williams (James), Eleanor Williams, Bettie McClendon (Dennis) and Linda Rohan (Leonel), as well as a host of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 9 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home.
