Thomas was born in Detroit, MI to the late Charles Risher and Rosina Boff Risher. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and spent time working in Greenland and in Scotland where he met and married his wife, Norah. He spent the majority of his career working for Reliance Electric and was transferred to Athens in 1975. He and Norah loved to travel, having visited all 50 states and 44 countries. Thomas was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer and was a longtime member of The Catholic Center at the University of Georgia.
Thomas is survived by his children, Carol Pawlik and her husband, Steve, of Dawsonville, Mike R. Risher and his wife, DeeDee, of Oconee County, and Diana Risher of Bogart; brother, Edward Risher and his wife, Cathy, of Michigan; sisters, Joanne Rafferty of Michigan, Susan Carmack and her husband, Ray, of Ohio, Marylou Kemeny and her husband, Bill, of Michigan, and Judi Schembri of Michigan; grandchildren, Stephen Pawlik and his wife, Jenny, Alyssa Knickerbocker and her husband, Robbie, Sara Pawlik, Michael Risher and Andrew “Drew” Risher.
A memorial mass will be held Friday, September 20, 2024, at 6:30 p.m., in The Catholic Center at the University of Georgia, with a reception to follow in the church parish hall.
